Kamala, 21 ans, est une migrante originaire du Madhya Pradesh vivant à Bombay. Elle habite une cabane au bord de la plage de Juhu avec son grand-père paralysé et sa jeune soeur. Kamala est la seule à avoir un revenu. Elle tresse des guirlandes de jasmin pour faire vivre sa famille et scolariser sa soeur de 12 ans.[2]
